Anna Alsina Bardagí | Bio
Anna Alsina Bardagí is a contemporary glass artist exploring the interaction of light, heat, and gravity within solid glass. She works with optical glass, employing kiln-casting and precision polishing techniques to reveal internal forms that shift with the viewer’s perspective.
Her works emerge from a carefully staged casting process, where surface treatments and internal arrangements before firing guide the final composition. Anna exclusively uses eco-optical glass produced by Ohara in Japan — free from lead and arsenic — to ensure material purity.
Her fascination with physics, the universe, and perception drives her research into the optical potential of glass. In her words: “Optical glass offers a unique dialogue between motion and stillness. Depending on the perspective, it reveals hidden dimensions that invite viewers to engage with the material in unexpected ways.”
“My art is driven by a desire to capture light, transparency, and the optical illusions that only glass can create.”
Exhibitions, collections, and glass art journey
Anna’s work has been exhibited in contemporary galleries, museums, and cultural institutions across Europe and the United States. Highlights include the Contemporary Glass Art Museum (Spain), the Morean Arts Center (USA), the Charleroi Museum of Fine Arts (Belgium), the London Glassblowing Gallery (UK), and Gallery O (Germany). Her sculptures are held in private collections throughout Europe and North America.
Born in Madrid (Spain) and raised near the Mediterranean in the village of Begur, Anna initially pursued a career in journalism and worked in science communication. She discovered glass art in 2011, a turning point in her life. Shortly after, she took a summer workshop with local glassmakers in Barcelona, where she was introduced to the fundamentals of casting. She has developed her expertise in kiln-casting and optical glass techniques largely through self-directed learning and experimentation in her Barcelona atelier.
In addition to her studio work, Anna is actively involved in the international glass art community as a member of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (USA), the Contemporary Glass Society (UK), and the Catalan Association of Glass Arts (Spain).
