Anna Alsina press

An article in the newspaper L’Est Éclair explores my glass work and solo exhibition at Galerie Artes (Pont-Sainte-Marie). It traces the path that led me from scientific journalism to glass casting, and how transparency, light, and optical illusions have become the core of my artistic language.

Below is a full transcript of the article:

The Play of Transparency in the Work of Spanish Artist Anna Alsina Bardagi

Two years after the Glass Biennale, Anna Alsina Bardagi, a contemporary Spanish artist, has returned to the Aube region. Until December 20, she is exhibiting her work at the Artes gallery.

Based in Barcelona, Spain, Anna Alsina Bardagi was originally a science journalist. “In 2011, she discovered the art of glass and decided to start working with this material, to explore it,” explains gallerist and artist Jean-François Lemaire. She bought a kiln and launched herself into contemporary artistic creation with success, all while continuing her parallel work as a journalist. “She already has an impressive résumé,” he says enthusiastically. She has exhibited in England, the United States, Belgium, and also in Germany.

Selected for the Glass Biennale in 2023

And since November 13, she has been exhibiting thirteen pieces at the Artes gallery in Pont-Sainte-Marie. “She was selected two years ago for the first edition of the Glass Biennale dedicated to contemporary art in 2023,” recalls Jean-François Lemaire. “I found her work exceptional, and I suggested she come exhibit at the gallery.”

It took a bit of time. “She produces few pieces.” She uses kiln-casting techniques and precision polishing to reveal internal forms that emerge before the viewer.

Her fascination and her art are driven by a desire to capture light, transparency, and the optical illusions that glass can create. “She uses a special optical glass from Japan, also used for telescopes. This allows her to give her pieces a magical clarity. She plays with mirror effects and kaleidoscopic reflections and works extensively on transparency.” The result is pure and technically sophisticated; it is beautiful and soothing. Sometimes even fascinating!
